No cable, no app on the other side. Turn on the Virtual Display, scan the QR code, and a Windows laptop, an Android tablet, an old iPad or an iPhone turned sideways becomes a second screen for your Mac. Any browser will do. The private link works only on your network.

Your Apple TV, AirPlay televisions and your iPad sit in one list. One press and the TV on the wall is a monitor; another and the iPad joins on the other side. Extended or mirrored, for a presentation or a client review, without a single HDMI cable.

What macOS recommends sits on top, Native first, and every size it hides is listed underneath. Refresh rate and HDR are right there too. MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, the Virtual Display: each remembers its own.

A 4K export, a photo batch, a render, an AI agent writing code: close the lid and it keeps going, on battery, with no monitor attached. ProStudio Display watches the temperature the whole time, and if the Mac gets too hot, say in a backpack, it lets it sleep on its own.

No. The iPad connects through Sidecar, which is built into your Mac. An iPhone, a Windows laptop or an Android tablet only needs a browser: turn on the Virtual Display, scan the QR code or open the private link on the same Wi‑Fi. It works only on your network.
Yes. Apple TV and AirPlay televisions appear in the same list as your iPad. One press and the TV is a monitor, extended or mirrored, without an HDMI cable.
